Chris meets Henry Rollins

with one comment

Well, after 15 years as a fan, it finally happened. I finally got to meet Hank Rollins. I said to him exactly what I had imagined and practiced I would say. I said “Thanks”.

He insisted on making his intense face for all the pics he took…

This is the part of me that needs medication

Medication by Modest Mouse

this is the part of me that needs medication
this is the part of me that believes in heaven
this is the part of me that thinks outer space is all dead
this is the part of me that wishes it was with it
this is the part of me that ‘s trying to be funny
this is the part of me that loves my parents
this is the part of me that thinks that ants are cavemen
this is the part of me that thinks all humans are ants
this is the part of me that learns from sitcoms
this is the part of me that means nothing
and I don’t know
where I could go away and you could wish that I had stayed or just
stayed gone
and I don’t know
and I don’t know at all
so, out of the context and into what you meant
and you know your reasons
you don’t know who you are but you know who you wanna be
I don’t know
so you go to the library to get yourself a book and you look and you look
but you didn’t find anything to read
and I don’t know at all
left all my kinder parts rusting and peeling
that guy was complaining as he looked at the ceiling
my nose isn’t that big it looks nothing like me
we’re all doctors trading sadness for numbness
grass looks much greener but it’s green-painted cement
the mayor’s machines are there cleaning the pavement
you can’t make dirt clean so we’ll just lemon-scent it

Tiger Lillies

with one comment

Tonight I got to meet and hear the Tiger Lillies live and in person.

I did get a quick pic with the band, unfortunately my volunteer camera person, a nice chap from the UK (who was behind me in line) didn’t quite get it focused before he took it. So here it is in all it’s blurry glory.

From now on — I take a photographer with me.

I’m Not Dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)

without comments

I had the pleasure of seeing both Reid Paley and Frank Black in concert last night. I feel compelled to share the lyrics to my favorite song of the night. Co-written by Reid and Frank Black.

I don’t want you to worry, I’m okay
Just didn’t want you seeing me this way
We tried to talk about it but we didn’t understand
We never really talked much anyway

I finally found a place to call my own
A place where all good sinners can get stoned
I’ll keep my holy vision, you keep your stupid pride
You said I couldn’t make it on my own

But I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
And now I can’t get out of town
But I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
They’ve got me all strung, come cut me down

Like the weeds in all the cracks
All my memories come back
Like some Allegheny smack in the face

It’s all just one big monkey house to me
Just living ain’t the same as being free
Don’t stop and think about it
It’ll only make you sad
Come put me out of my misery

‘Cause I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
Where a man can lose his mind
I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
They’ve got me suited up for crazy time

I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
And now I can’t get out of town
Hey I’m not dead (I’m in Pittsburgh)
